Qld: Brisbane's North Bank plan unveiled

The Queensland government says it'll seek public advice .. on whether to go ahead with
a massive commercial and entertainment precinct over part of the Brisbane River.

The plan to build a North Bank .. complementing the South Bank Parklands .. was first
announced in 2002.

The winning bid by Multiplex has been announced today .. including open public space
.. seven high-rise buildings .. a hotel .. a footbridge to South Bank and a swimming pool.

Although originally earmarked to be built over the Riverside Expressway .. Premier
PETER BEATTIE says it'll now be built beside the expressway and 40 metres into the Brisbane
River .. because of cost constraints.

Mr BEATTIE says the mood of the community will be gauged after one month of public consultation.

Construction could commence in 2008 and the entire precinct will be built over 10 years.
